Elon Musk’s X has accused New Delhi in a new litigation that the Indian Ministry has illegally increased censorship powers to allow online content to be easily removed.
Legalization and allegations indicate a growing point in the ongoing legal dispute between the X and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which has been ordered to eliminate the content of New Delhi. It has also come to the fore when Musk is approaching its other key projects in India to launch Star Link and Tesla.
In filing a new March 5 court, X argued that the IT Ministry of India is asking other departments to use an official website launched by the Ministry of Home Affairs last year to issue orders to stop the contents and also mandate social media companies to join the website.
X says that this procedure does not have strict Indian legal security measures to remove contents, which require such orders to be issued in cases such as sovereignty or public discipline loss, and has come under strict surveillance of top officials.
India’s IT Ministry redirected Reuters‘A request to comment on the Interior Ministry, which did not respond.
X said, “The website creates an unforgivable parallel mechanism”, which causes “uncontrollable censorship of information in India”, adding that it is trying to remove the directive.
X’s judicial papers are not public and was first reported by the media on Thursday.
Earlier this week, a judge was briefly heard by a judge in the South Karnataka state High Court but no final decision was made. It will now be heard on March 27.
In 2021, X, previously called Twitter, stood with the Indian government with legal orders to stop some tweets against farmers’ protests against government policies with the government government.
X later complied with public criticism by officials, but his legal challenge continues to make the decision in Indian courts.
