Officials said that all the “large” pieces of debris have been cleared from the river Potomic by a collision between Black Hawk helicopters and American Airlines flight 5342.
The National Transportation Safety Board said on Saturday that the recovered pieces were shifted to “a safe airport facility for further examination and documents.” The federal agency had earlier announced that the remains of the military helicopter were removed from the river last week.
More than a week has passed since the Black Hawk and commercial flight crashed, killing 64 people and killing three people in a helicopter flight.
On the night of January 29, the American Airlines flight was traveling from Kansas to the National Airport, a Waketa in Arlington, Virginia, Virginia.
According to the US figure skating, at least 28 of the 60 passengers were returning from a figure skating training camp that came after the 2025 US figure skating championship. Many of these young Olympic candidates, their family members and coaches were included.
Black Hook was doing a training mission with Fort Belveer, Virginia, officials said.
It is not yet clear what the cause of the collision is.
A cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were recovered from the plane and taken for diagnosis. Officials said all aircraft equipment data is expected to be recovered.
According to the NTSB, the air traffic control display shows that the helicopter appears to fly at 300 feet at the time of the collision. It is 200 feet high from 200 feet high under the Federal Aviation Rules for helicopters.
The board said, adding additional information from Black Hawk debris to verify its flight track data.
