WASHINGTON: “The deadline is not today,” US State Department spokesman Temmy Bruce said on Friday, when asked if the deadline for a visa policy review was extended.
However, it confirmed that US visa policies are still underway.
The 60 -day deadline for announcing a new policy on Friday. US media reports speculated that the policy would be announced on Friday afternoon.
But Ms. Bruce reiterated that the Trump administration is conducting a broader review of visa policies under the executive order issued on January 20.
He emphasized that the review focuses on enhancing visa security measures and entering the country.
Ms Bruce had earlier said at a briefing that Pakistan and Afghanistan were on the list of nations facing visa sanctions, rejecting their reports, Ms Bruce had said earlier in the briefing, “First, there is no list.”
However, US media reports say that President Trump can soon impose travel restrictions or sanctions on citizens of more than a dozen countries, including Iran and Venezuela.
Trump’s order has called on US agencies to set strict testing standards and submit a list of non -compliance countries by March 21.
