Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told a group of business and labor leaders that “US President Donald Trump’s desire to control Canada is a real thing.” Toronto Star Reported.
Trudeau gave these remarks in a closed door setting, but he mistakenly moved by loudspeaker.
Trump has often said that Canada should become the 51st state and has insulted Trudeau, and call him the governor instead of the prime minister.
“They are very familiar with our resources, what we have and they want to benefit from these people,” said Trudeau. “But in Mr Trump’s mind, one of the easiest ways to do so is absorbing our country. And this is a real thing.”
Canada has oil, natural gas, diamonds and many other natural resources. The country is also an important potash producer, used in fertilizer to grow crops.
Trudeau also discussed trade relations with Canada. Last week, Trump threatened Canada with 25 % tariffs on all Canadian imports and 10 % lower taxes on energy.
If such prices are to be passed, it can put Canada into recession because of Canada’s integrated trade economy with the United States. It will also increase the price of petrol, grocery and other items for US consumers.
“The strategic reflection we have to do right now is … how we go through the next four years, and achieve development, and what could be more challenging than the long -term political situation with the United States. “?” Trudeau said earlier in the meeting.
The dangers of Trump’s trade and affiliation can lead to strong economic and political relations with other powers such as China and the European Union.
