Late Tuesday, President Donald Trump launched a barrage of executive orders and other actions aimed at undermining efforts at diversity, equity and inclusion — both within and across government. The change reverses decades of policies that had strong Democratic support and were maintained by previous Republican administrations, including during Trump’s first term. And it would mean the end of policies whose advocates had provided meaningful channels for the advancement of millions of women and minorities.
And the acting chief of the Office of Federal Civil Service Oversight ordered all employees in DEI-related offices to go on furlough, effectively freezing DEI efforts at the government level.
Progressive groups can challenge many of these measures in court, but they may face long odds, as the majority of the Supreme Court takes a dim view of affirmative action. And with Trump’s executive order promising more anti-DEI measures in the coming months, America’s anti-DEI revolution is well underway. The implications of this revolution will be felt in government, business, academia, and virtually every other facet of civic life for years, if not decades, to come.
