President Donald Trump’s border, Tom Hoon, contested ABC News’ Jonathan Carl about the Trump administration’s claim that the recent deportation flights to El Salvador were only filled with gang members, despite being involved in non -gang -related people.
Newsweek Homeland Security (DHS) has reached the department to comment via email on Sunday.
Why does it make a difference
Last week, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that some of the alleged MS -13 were sent to El Salvador, allegedly some of the alleged men and train de -Aragua (TDA) groups.
Following the move last week, Trump was requested by the 1798 foreign enemies Act. The news of the deportation flights came after US District Judge James “Pocket” Boseberg ordered temporary removal and ordered to return any aircraft with deportation. The Trump administration is currently engaging in a legal war on the matter, with Trump standing up to his authority to carry out exiles and demand the Boseberg.
Last month, the United States and El Salvador reached an agreement in which the United States will pay 6 million Million to hold nearly 300 members of the Gang members at the Terrorism Center (CECOT).
Trump has promised to carry out the largest collective country in American history, a promise of an important campaign that has been widely backed by his Republican base and others. Although most Democrats oppose Trump’s point of view, many people agree on the need for immigration reforms.
What to know?
On ABC News’ This week On Sunday, Carl asked for details about deportation flights from Homan, seeking details of how more than 250 people in the plane ended and did their background.
Homan replied: “Some of them have been detained for a while, and some of the plane had to remove the title 8, which means they were ordered to be removed by an immigration judge, and some others were removed under the alien enemy act.”
Carl then inquired about the process of determining someone as a gang member, to which Homan noted that he rely on “different ways”.
“Do they have the opportunity to prove it? [they aren’t a member of either gang] Before you take them out of the country and put them in a notorious prison in a country that they are not even? Do they have any appropriate process? “Carl asked.
“Fixed process? But where was the rally process?” Homan asked. “Where were all these young women who were killed and abused by members of the TDA? Where was their proper action?”
The rally was killed last year by Venezuela’s 26 -year -old Jose Abra, who was previously detained and released on charges of minor crimes. His death, however, the rally act, was aimed at increasing border security resources, which were signed in the law at the end of January.
The border added: “But the bottom is that the plane was full of people who were named terrorists, number one.”
In an executive order signed in January, Trump nominated the TDA and other groups as terrorist organizations.
“Number two, in this flight, each Venezuelan immigrant was a member of the TDA based on a number of criminal investigations on intelligence reports, and many works of ICE officers.
Carl then cited a specific example of Jerus Rais Barros sent to El Salvador. Barros’ lawyer says his mistake was mistakenly identified as a member of the group. He is a football coach who fled Venezuela after being detained and tortured after attending a protest against Venezuela’s President Nicholas Maduro.
Hamman said Barros and his lawyer “can make these claims,”, but this “will be prosecuted in the courts with this judge. I will not go in every specific case because there are 260 cases. We had to trust men and women who do this every day, who called on the TDA as a member of the TDA.”
After Trump took office in January, the administration has repeatedly deported and deported. In March, several visas and green card holders have been detained, such as Mahmud Khalil, Rasha Aliwiyah, and Lavilin Dickson,.

What are people saying
An Ice spokesperson said Newsweek In a statement last week: “The ICE investigates that target the United States and overseas groups, members and colleagues. I help.
All foreigners who violate the US immigration law can be arrested, detecting and withdrawn from a final order or other legal means, regardless of nationality, removing the United States. “
Lee Jenent, a central lawyer of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), earlier in a statement Newsweek: “The Trump administration’s intention to use the authority during the war for immigration is as unparalleled as it is illegal. It may still be the administration’s extreme move, and it is saying a lot.”
What happens next?
The Trump administration is fighting for the President’s Executive Wertium Authority in the court with Boseburg, which has chaired the case, which filed a file filed on March 20 said that the material provided by the government is “badly inadequate.”
Boseberg has ordered the government to announce whether it is providing privileges to state secrets, and a short file on March 25, “it has been shown that they failed to return to the court on March 15, 2025, to return to the United States, not to return to the court. Newsweek.
