Trump axes Secret Service protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden

President Donald Trump announced Monday that he was immediately eliminating the Secret Service Protection for Biden’s adult children, Hunter and Ashley Biden.

The former president extended the protection by July shortly before leaving office in January.

In a social media post, Trump expressed his disappointment with 18 agents assigned to Hunter Biden’s security details during a visit to South Africa this week. Hunter’s wife Melissa Cohen Biden is actually from South Africa.

Trump wrote on the truth, “Hunter Biden has the protection of secret services for the expansion period, all of which are paid by the United States taxpayers.”

“There are more than 18 people on this details, which are currently in all places in South Africa, where people’s human rights have been questioned.

“Because of this, South Africa has been removed from the list of countries receiving economic and financial support, please, immediately, effective, Hunter Biden will not be protected by secret services.”

Trump also said that Ashley Biden, whom he said he had assigned 13 agents, would “be removed from the list”.

Although the former presidents and their spouses still protect secret services under US law, protection for their adult children usually ends with the presidency.

However, in the outgoing presidents, it is discretion that this protection should be extended for six months. Both Biden and Trump used this option for their families, following the example of former Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush.

The Biden Family has not received any immediate response to Trump’s decision.

The Secret Service said in a statement, “We are aware of the president’s decision to end the protection of Hunter and Ashley Biden.”

“The Secret Service will comply with it and is actively working with security details and the White House to ensure as soon as possible.”

While visiting John F. Kennedy Center for performing arts on Monday afternoon, a reporter asked Trump if he would cancel the protection of the former president’s son.

Trump said, “Well, we have done this with many people. I would say that if Hunter Biden is 18, then this will be something I will see this afternoon,” Trump said, “Trump said, who added that the first time he had heard about the matter.

“I will take a look at it,” he said.
