The 49ers bring back Robert Saleh for 2nd stint as defensive coordinator

Santa Clara, California (AP) – On Friday night, San Francisco 49ers hired Robert Saleh as a defense coordinator on Friday night after a failed period of New York Jets.

Saleh was a candidate for head coaching in Jackson Well, Dallas and Las Vegas. But once they were filled up all the places, Saleh decided to return to San Francisco as a coordinator to help rebuild the unit that was the most dominant of the league at the end of its first period. –

Saleh will be the fourth defense coordinator in the four seasons of San Francisco. Demco Ryans, who replaced Saleh in 2021, left for Houston to become head coach in Houston after the 2022 season, and Steve Wilks and Nick Surinson were replaced in the past two years after one season.

Saleh was kept in 2017 as the first Defense Coordinator of Shanahan and struggled in the first two season. But when the team drafted Nick Bosa’s defensive end in 2019 and implemented the “Wide Nine” scheme in which Edgeeers were standing in a wide range and focused on getting up in the field, defense began.

San Francisco went to the Super Bowl in the 2019 season and was still a strong season in the next season when it was not almost a year due to a knee injury, which resulted in Saleh getting a head coaching job with jets.

Saleh was expelled in New York in the middle of the previous season, but Jets strongly defended him during his tenure. During the last two full season of Saleh with jets in 2022-23, New York yard passing permission per game (178.9) and yards per play per play (4.7) was ranked first, and total defense (301.7 yards per game ) I was second.

49ers surpassed this season under Sournson as the unit -filled unit struggled to make turnsover, stop the run and make permanent pressure on the quarterback.

The San Francisco is ranked 29th in scoring a defense in the League, which allowed 25.6 points per game, and with 17 with the lowest techway. The Niners had only two techies in the last nine games and allowed at least 40 points at the end of the season. For the first time since 2015, back to back games.

49ers are also looking for an aggressive coordinator and special teams coordinator. Passing Game Specialist Clay Kobyak is expected to develop aggressive coordinator spots, which has not been filled since Mike Mc Daniel’s head coach in Miami after the 2021 season.
