Meanwhile, as the Trump administration and Canada discuss the risk of revenue on goods and services, Ontario is moving forward with a 25 % surcharge on energy exports.
Ontario Minister of Energy and Power, Stephen Les, spoke to Fox 2 about recent decisions.
“The thing is, the president has to show that we mean a business,” Les said. “Just a few years ago to raise ourselves against the illegal attack on the deal with Canada and Mexico. Nine million Americans awakened this morning because of Ontario’s economic relations, which we say with the United States.
By the numbers:
Ontario prices mean that 25 % of the 25 % surcharge sold to its American consumers at every megawatt – especially in New York, Minnesota and Michigan.
The Michigan Public Service Commission says it could affect prices in our state’s regional markets. The Commission also said that it was concerned about whether tariffs could damage the grid’s reliability in the states.
He wrote in a statement:
“Any move to restrict or interfere with these flows will eliminate a layer of protection and we will all threaten to closure of the same grid scale to the Canadian and Americans.”
Digger Digger:
Chris Cobes, Associate Professor of Energy at the University of Okland, says that while tariff talk made headlines, he believes that his effect on Michigan will be minimal.
“As we have pure use for Canadian electricity, on the other way, they are purely used,” said Cobes. “We give them a little natural gas. They start to get more and more compensation for electricity. We are going to get more and more compensation for natural gas.”
“As soon as the Trump administration can come to you all and say, ‘Hey, we want to eliminate these rates.’ Energy prices went immediately?
Les replied, “We will leave the surcharge as soon as you get off the table.”
