State Rep. Gene Ward announces retirement due to health setbacks

Hunololo (Ayyynoseno) – A longtime state lawmaker is retiring after about 27 27 years of public service.

State Representative Jean Ward, Rort Lock, Hawaii Kai, Valley Kaama announced retirement on Friday.

The last day in his office will be on March 31.

The 82 -year -old said recent health failures, including the diagnosis of pneumonia, attracted it to this difficult decision.

The ward wrote, “Despite many efforts by medical professionals, my recovery has been very slow and more painful in the past few weeks. In light of the recent diagnosis of pneumonia, I have found myself at a difficult confluence to decide my future as a member of the Hawaiian state legislature.”

The ward added, “It is a great honor to serve the people of Hawaii Kai, Kalama Valley and Port Lock.”

In a statement, Government Josh Green said, “Jane has always been a fighter, and I know that she will approach the chapter with the same strength and determination she has shown throughout her career.”

State Representative Diamond Garcia, R. Varuna Village, Eva, Kapoli, Fernandez Village, said, “Even if he was a minority minority, even in his own Cox, he still stood for his beliefs and never withdraws it. We are going to remember him here in Capitol.”

State Representative Lauren Mitsumoto, R-Milani, Wipi Acades, Milani Mouka, agreed. “He will always say something.” We do not have votes, but we have a voice, “and he ensures to stand on every issue. He is a reality in this building and we express his best wishes in his retirement.”

Hawaii’s GOP party will now name the governor to replace the ward of 18 to three nominees.

The governor will have 60 days on the last day of the ward so that one of these individuals can be appointed to the seat.
