Stanford takes weekend series from UNC baseball

After starting the season 13-0, the UNC dropped the first series of the year.

The baseball program of the North Carolina Tar Heels was on a role here for the first few weeks of the regular season in 2025. But this weekend, Diamond Hales suffered their first overall loss and decline in the first series of the year.

Stanford came to Chapel Hill and took two of the three against Diamond Hales, which sent UNC 14-2 and 1-2 to the ACC game. It was the first ACC series for both teams and was the first for Stanford at the conference.

And the cardinal noticed his presence from the beginning.

Game 1: Stanford 13, UNC 9

After an innings, North Carolina took a 3-0 lead, starting a good start in the game. But Stanford quickly responded with two runs in the top of the other, one in the third and then the fourth for a 6-3 lead.

While the UNC responded immediately and tied the game to 6 in the bottom of the third, Stanford scored six runs in the top of the fifth to break it. Jason Dikaro suffered his first loss of season and is now 3-1.

Game 2: UNC 11, Stanford 1

The UNC responded to a big way on Saturday afternoon, defeating Stanford 11-1 in seven innings. The fourth innings of a big four runs gave the UN a 6-1 lead on the cardinal and they never looked back. He scored a score in the fifth and sixth innings and then finished it with three in the seventh.

Luke Stevenson went 4-for-4 with RBI single to lead Tar Heels on Saturday.

Game 3: Stanford 7, UNC 0

The UNC speed was short. Stanford came out and evacuated the target heels in the game Three when UNC’s bats cool when they had opportunities.

The game was not comfortable in the first four innings before Stanford two in the upper part of the fifth to take the lead in the Chapel Hill. They added three more in the sixth innings and essentially ended it there. Tar Heels had some chances for a plate -run, but in the scoring position the key successes were not achieved.

The UNC will now hit the road to play UNC-Willington this week and then visit Louis Will to face cardinals for the ACC series on Saturday.
