South Sudan President Kiir sacks two vice-presidents and spy chief

South Sudan President Silva Kerr has dismissed his two vice presidents, the country’s spy chief and other senior officials.

The dismissal was announced in a series of presidential orders read at the state broadcaster. There were no reasons for the move.

South Sudan has five vice presidents as part of the 2018 peace deal to end the civil war.

The oil -rich nation became the latest country in the world in 2011 after separation from Sudan – but after that the care and its deputy rack masked after the collapse of the civil war. The 2018 Power Sharing Agreement is full of problems.

One of the vice presidents removed from the post is James Wani Eggiga, an experienced politician and general, who has been in office since 2013 and is the president of the president’s party SPLM.

The second is Hussein Abdul Bagi Akol, who is from the Opposition Alliance (SSOA), who is not part of the first Vice President Rick Makar’s central movement (SPLM in Opposition).

Akol has been appointed Minister of Agriculture, in which Josephine Joseph has been replaced by the same SSOA Alliance that has now become a vice president.

Benjamin Bol Mail, who was approved by the United States for alleged corruption in 2017, has been appointed to replace the IGGA as Vice President.

Mail, earlier, a special presidential envoy for special programs, has been the subject of speculation that he is being confronted as a potential successor to the care.

The President has not appointed alternatives to the Minister of Health and the Governor of the South West West Equipment, both of which are from the Machar Party.

He has not even appointed an important alternative to the dismissed Spy Chief, Akik Tong Alu, who served only four months after being appointed in October.

The 2018 peace agreement provides the president for the appointment and dismissal of government officials at both national and state levels.

He can only appoint and dismiss the officials who belong to other political parties with the consent of the leadership of these parties.

It is unclear whether the Western Actoria Governor and the dismissal of the Minister of Health was recommended by his party leader Machar. The SPLM in the opposition has not commented on the matter.

South Sudan has not made any choice since independence.

The first votes across the country were due in 2015, but the elections could not proceed due to a dispute over December 2013.

Then it was to be in 2022, but the elections were postponed for two years and were scheduled to take place two months ago.

The vote was postponed once again, and the country’s leadership said that the election would now be held in December 2026.
