KARACHI: The Sindh government on Saturday banned the entry of heavy vehicle into the city during the day, against the backdrop of a dangerous increase in dumper trucks.
Dumpers will be allowed to enter the city only from 11am to 6pm, officials said.

In the last 40 days, 112 people were killed and 216 others were injured in traffic accidents, of which several dumpers were included.
The recent death of innocent people by dumpers on the city’s streets strongly condemned the SHC orders in connection with the failure of provincial authorities and traffic police traffic laws and the movement of heavy vehicles to the city.
In addition to the opposition parties, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessuri also strongly condemned the traffic police for failing to organize the movement of heavy vehicles, which killed so many civilians.
In view of the criticism, the provincial government decided to ban the entry of dumper trucks during the day.
At a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, it was decided to discuss traffic issues in the city under the direction of the Chief Minister.
The meeting excavated the provincial and city police chief, commissioner, transport secretary and traffic among others.
The CS said the decision is aimed at reducing the increasing number of road accidents caused by heavy vehicles and improving traffic flow to metropolis.
Verification of heavy vehicles
The meeting has also decided that all heavy vehicles and their drivers will undergo physical verification to ensure compliance with the safety regulations. In addition, all vehicles operating in the city will have to receive certified certificates from the QR code from the provincial transport department.
The Chief Secretary also directed the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, which has more than a thousand dumper trucks fleet to dispose of the garbage, so that they move heavy vehicles, within three months to move at night. Do

Highlighting the major causes of accidents, he said the main reason for this is the lack of implementation of heavy traffic laws.
The meeting revealed that 65 % of vehicles in the city were motorcycles and 55 % of the motorcycle riders were involved in all road accidents.
Meanwhile, the provincial government’s road checking committee continued the crackdown against overloading, over -speeding, and non -standard commercial vehicles and inspected 33 vehicles.
