Science teacher receives $1,000 award

Josh Nelson, a Watita Falls, Texas (Koz) -Liggi High School Biology Teacher, was awarded the Roberta Falconer Sunder Award for his dedication to his students. The award, Dr. Herald Sund, has been prepared in memory of his wife, Roberta Folcker, recognizes a science teacher in the district every year and comes with a $ 1,000 check.

Nelson said when the award was presented to him, he was caught by the guard.

“Actually, when they first went in, they asked, ‘Can I disrupt classes?’ And I thought, ‘Well, who did something wrong in my class?’ Then I saw a whole series of people, and I thought, ‘Oh, this is definitely a lot, a great experience.’ I had no indication that I was for it too.

The award goes to a special science teacher, because Mrs. Folkner taught chemistry from 1968 to 1992, and has the honor of her love for science.

Nelson has been teaching in WFISD for 25 years and he likes to share science with his students.

“I have to teach about the things I like. This is not a class that everyone wants to take – it’s a class that they have to take. So, I definitely want to try to make it so that they can enjoy their time in my room. I just do it.
