The Supreme Court on Saturday fixed the date of hearing March 21 for a contempt of court petition against PTI founder Imran Khan.
In 2022, the SC raised questions about retaining an application for contempt action against the former chairman of the PTI – to consider the orders of the high court on May 25 this year about his party’s ‘Independence March’ – and observed that the Ministry of Interior has filed an ineffective request.
The Ministry had said that the Apex Court had directed the PTI to submit its ‘Independence March’ to a ground between Sector H-9 and G-9, but Imran and his supporters turned to D Chowk in violation of court orders.
According to a recent development, a five -member constitutional bench headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear the petition on March 21.
The bench will also include Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhil, Justice Naeem Akhter Afghan, Justice Hashim Khan Kakar and Justice Aamir Farooq.
On October 13, the Interior Ministry on May 25 launched contempt of court charges against Imran, allegedly allegedly raiding the SC.
In the May order, the petition was recalled, the Apex Court had directed the PTI to not cause any discomfort or obstruction to their rally for not causing any discomfort or interruption in the Srinagar Highway and their advice by the party’s top leadership and their advice.
Despite these assurances, the high leadership of the PTI, ignoring the instructions, urged his supporters to reach D Chowk, and claimed that the court had allowed the march without conditions.
The contempt of court appealed for the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order to protect the basic rights of the people, especially the residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
