“It’s impossible to adequately express how I feel,” Andrews wrote. “I am absolutely devastated by what happened on Sunday. This is why it has taken me until now to gather my thoughts and address this publicly.

“Although the shock and despair is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before, I refuse to let the situation define me. I promise that this adversity will only make me stronger and fuel us as we move forward. I thank everyone who showed up and our team has been really supportive these past few days.

“Despite the negativity, I’ve seen an outpouring of love and encouragement, including from people who have generously donated to the Breakthrough T1D organization. Even when the moment seems bleak, perspective can show. There’s still so much light in this world I’m going to jump back in and contribute #GodBless.”
