Officials say a suspect is in custody after a police officer in Georgia was fatally shot

Rose, will.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a news release that a police officer in Roosevelt responded to the report of a suspicious man in a pickle ball club parking lot on Friday night.

The bureau said the officer contacted the man, identified as 23 -year -old Edward Espenoza, for questioning. Espenoza pulled a handgun and fired several shots at the officer, which has not been identified. The officer died at a hospital, the bureau said.

Officers seized Espenoza. He has been accused of murder, a law enforcement officer and possessing firearms in the crime commission.

Online records do not show whether he has a lawyer to talk about the allegations on Saturday. The Associated Press did not respond to a call to the Filton County Public Protector office.

The GBI said the results of the investigation for a possible prosecution would be given to the Filton County District Attorney’s Office.

The Roosevelt is located about 25 25 miles (40 km) north of Atlanta.

In a statement, the Roosevelt Police Department said that more information will be released in the coming days, “but now our priority is to surround and help our falling officers and families of the bereaved department.”
