New NFIB Health Care Policy Paper Urges Lawmakers to Enact Relief for Main Street

For a quick release

Konkord, NH (March 10, 2025) – National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB)New Hampshire’s leading Small Business Advocacy Association, has released a new health care policy paper, titled, “to tackle the health insurance crisis for small businesses.” These results show a rigorous diagnosis for the small group insurance market as the health coverage provided by the employer is becoming unstable for millions of small businesses and their employees.

“Health insurance costs are already worried for small business owners over forty years.” John Reynolds, NFIB New Hampshire State Director. The ability to offer job health coverage is very important to recruit and maintain workers, but this advantage is moving forward and beyond reaching many small employers. The first step that New Hampshire lawmakers can take is to stop making the issue even worse by adding new mandates and regulations that increase the cost of coverage.

Key results from the report:

  • The smaller group is in the market -freefall, which in 2014 has decreased by 15 million people in 2023 by only 8.5 million, which is 44 %.
  • The average premiums for small businesses have hit the sky: In the past two decades, the average single plan premium has increased by 120 %, while the average family plan premium for 50 or less employees has increased by 129 %.
  • Only 30 % of small businesses still offer health insurance, which is less than about 50 % in 2000.
  • Small businesses say they are worried about whether they will be able to continue to offer health insurance offers over the next five years.
  • Small businesses pay double the price for health insurance, as much as in big businesses, less than $ 600,000 income firms spend about 12 % payroll on precision benefits, while compared to 7 % for more than 4 2.4 million revenue firms.

NFIB New Hampshire Health Care Priority:

  • Flexible coverage. Small business owners allow their employees and health careers to work together to determine what they do better for them without adding individual and small group markets with additional mandates and regulations.
  • Access to balance and value. NFIBNH supports SB 256 (San Tim McGov), who suggest patients to ensure timely access to fragile drugs, while reducing useless methods and protecting one of the most expensive classes of prescriptions (cleanser -administered medicines).
  • Support new routes. Lawmakers want to find new ways to help small employers offer individual coverage health compensation arrangements (ICHRA). And make the construction of several employers’ welfare arrangements (Mewas) and Association Health Plans (AHP).
