New Dubuque sports facility could create 1,000 jobs, generate $20M local revenue annually

Dobuk, Iowa (KCRG) – A study released by the Dobuk Racing Association has shown that building a sports complex on the Cheplin Schmidt Island can generate more than a thousand jobs and generate at least $ 20 million annually for local businesses.

In the vision described, the three softball diamonds and baseball field of the Macales Park and Recreational Complex will be replaced with the latest college baseball diamond, softball field, and a multi -faceted field, suitable for four football fields. A new facility of indoor sports will also be constructed in the second sheet of ice in Aman Ice Arena, including six basketball and eight pickles ball courts.

“It’s time to dream, it’s time to think about it.”

Of the 2,031 people surveyed in the DRA Study, 84 % say that the current sports facilities of Dobok are insufficient and 36 % say they leave the region for training methods and appropriate facilities for league games.

Dobok Council member Katie Viethal says the complex will make Dobok more attractive.

“There is authenticity for our next generations, moving forward, which our community will provide,” says Vietzal. “We have talked about mental health measures and this is a part of it.”

The construction of a multi -sports facility will cost about $ 75 million. Kanag says public private partnerships will be necessary to meet the bill.

Kanag says, “If we want something as a community, we will need to think about it, and we will probably need to think about how we will do it in the stages.” “We will also need help as your representatives to do this from the private sector.”

He notes that more plans will be needed.

“Clearly, we have his desire and what happens after that and we do not understand.” We have budget hearings.

The city is hosting a special session to start the budget process for the financial year 2025 at 5:15 pm on Monday, March 25.
