Memorial Sports and Entertainment, which owns Washington’s capitals and Wisdoms, is giving elementary school students 29,000 NBA regulation -sized basketball.
Thousands of young students in DC will soon have a new way to stay active as memorable sports and entertainment, which owns the company Washington Capitals and Wisdoms, have begun giving elementary school students 29,000 NBA regulation size basketballs.
According to the memorable CEO Ted Lewinsis, the effort is part of the company’s commitment to enhance access to youth sports.
“Going to schools and giving these balls to these balls,” said Levisis. “Parents, children, students – it would be a commendable to have a government NBA hair.”
The plan is to give each student basketball in 80 DC Public Elementary Schools, from kindergarten to fifth grade.
“This is a huge donation,” said Lewis Frobie, Chancellor of DC Public Schools. “(This) is an opportunity for students to roam, improve physical health, but also to achieve some athletic skills.”
The first 300 basketballs will be provided Thursday at the Brown Education Campus of Northeast DC
The rate of about five schools will continue daily, with the goal that each student gets a ball before the spring break. Each basketball includes Washington Wazirz’s official logo and team colors.
“Sports can affect students positively, whether it be physical health, mental health, emotional health or social skills,” said Freebie. “This is another good way to show the relationship between sports and organized activities, and how they help build round students well.”
It is expected that it will take about a month to complete the whole process.
“We need to blow up basketballs, if you can believe it,” Lewisis laughed. “We are really working hard on it.”
Luns said he hopes that this will create lasting memories for the students.
He said, “When you say that we are giving basketball to every child, everyone closes his eyes and when you arrive at Christmas, he misses it, a new baseball glove or football or basketball.”
