Of course, though, she recognizes potential pressure that President Trump’s announcement of an emergency on the US border may fall on Mexico.
It is estimated that 5 million non -documentary Mexicans are currently living in the United States and the possibility of massive return can rapidly and overwhelming border cities like Jaeys and Tijuana.
This is a problem that bothers Jose Maria Garcia Lara, director of the shelter of the Immigrants of 2000 in Tijuana. As he shows me around the convenience, which is already close to his capacity, he says there are very few places that they can fit more families.
“If we have to do, we may probably put some people in the kitchen or in the library,” he says.
A point comes, though, where there is no place – and donations of food, medical equipment, blankets and hygiene products will be very thin.
“We are being targeted on two fronts. First, the arrival of Mexican and other immigrants who are fleeing violence,” says Mr Garcia.
“But too, we have to deport largely. We do not know how many people will come from across the border who will need our help. These two things can create a major problem together. “”
