The Canadian Liberal Party announced Saturday afternoon that it would host two leadership debates in Montreal in late February. One in English and the other in French.
In a news release, the Liberal Party said that the French debate will be held on February 24 and the English debate will be the next day on February 25.
So far, five candidates are in the race to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
They are: Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of Canada. Former Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Christia Freeland. Kareena Gold, former House Leader. Frank Bailes, former Liberal Member of Parliament; And Ruby Dhola, a former liberal Member of Parliament.
But it is not guaranteed that the five leadership will bring candidates to the debate phase, as there is a heavy financial barrier a week before the debate.
To compete to become the next Liberal leader, and by extension, the next Prime Minister of Canada, candidates, need to pay 000 350,000, made in installments. A huge amount, 000 125,000, was 5 pm on Friday evening – which was paid by five candidates.
Two initial payments of 000 50,000 helped launch candidates’ campaigns and then access the party membership list. The last installment of 000 125,000 is scheduled for February 17.
In January, Freeland demanded the Liberal Party to hold four debates in an open letter – two in English and two in French -language – “to show that Canadian residents show that we, as a party, Depending on the task of defeating Perry Poliur. “
