New York, New York – NYC Health + Hospitals today announced that the Summary Expressionist Painter Elias Bolotoski’s 6 -foot -21 feet painting Free title (1973) After years of storage, NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln has been permanently installed in the lobby. Initially developed by the Artist for NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx, the work returns to the public thanks to a $ 70,000 donation from Bloomberg donors. Twenty -two small works of the artist will also be prepared and installed in NYC Health + Hospital facilities. Artist Elias Bolotoxy (1907-1981) developed his abstract artistic practice after traveling from Russia’s St. Petersburg to New York. Bolotosky, a preliminary practitioner to integrate the arts into health care settings, was commissioned in 1941 by the Work Progress Administration to paint a wall for the hospital on Roosevelt Island. Today, the artist’s collection in NYC Health + Hospitals has more than 20 works.
Bolotoski’s visual language and simple maps showed the healing benefits of summary art works. According to Leading art and health specialist Judy Rollins“Summary art enables our brain to flow into its inner states, which is difficult to access otherwise.” Studies Supporting this idea, noting that summarizing art is non-representation-unannounced scenes or symbolic works-it encourages the formation of new emotional and academic associations, which can significantly benefit goodness. The art collection of NYC Health + Hospitals is from the 1930s, when the Federal Art Project of the Works Progress Administration kept artists to create work for government buildings. Its combination of more than 7,500 art works include paintings, mosaics, images, sculptures, installation art, and walls by emerging and established professional artists. The collection includes some of the leading artists in the United States, such as Jacob Lawrence, Romeier Bariden, Helen Frankanthaler, Mary Frank, Betty Bulletin, Candida Alvarez, Andy Warol, Alexander Capidar, and Keith Loaring works. More than art collection, this work is helpful in enhancing more than 1.2 million patients with a healing environment, activation of places, engaging staff, promoting visual tactics, and receiving 43,000 employees and care for more than 1.2 million patients with care for NYC Health + hospitals.
In addition to the management of the Art Collection of the Health System, a diverse rows of arts programming were presented in the Arts in Department, including: Direct concerts in healthcare facilities through the Music for Civil Concert Series.
