Lacanau: UK sailor missing after yacht found ‘eviscerated’

A Portuguese cargo ship and a Spanish hospital ship were both diverted to the area to assist in the search, along with the French navy.

After several hours of searching, he was called out early Sunday morning “due to lack of information”.

Prefecture Maritime DL Atlantic said in a statement that the incident occurred after it was first alerted to the Tiger PA on Friday evening when it did not respond to radio messages.

A Portuguese cargo ship later made radio contact with the yacht and spoke to the 73-year-old sailor, who said he was safe.

In a statement, the Prefecture Maritime de La Atlantic reminded people to be careful in the water during stormy weather.

Storm Hermenia, named by the Spanish weather service Agenzia Statal de Meteorologia (AEMET) on Friday, brought heavy rain and strong winds to northern Spain and western France.

The storm brought wind gusts of up to 62mph and flood waters that also submerged cars and buildings in western France.
