Jerusalem: The Israeli Supreme Court on Friday issued an order temporarily freezing the dismissal of the head of the domestic intelligence service when protesters returned to the streets for the fourth day.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced last week that he had lost confidence in Shin Beat’s chief Ronan Bar and planned to dismiss them.
Tens of thousands of people in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv this week joined the protests, protesting against the dismissal, which critics see as an attempt to destroy state institutions.
“I see the end of Israel as we knew in the past. We are very worried that these are the last days of Israel as democracy,” said a businessman who joined Netanyahu’s Jerusalem residence.
A court statement said that the Supreme Court decision would allow the court to consider the petitions initiated against the dismissal, which was approved by the cabinet late on Thursday, with the decision that it did not decide after April 8.
After the dismissal of the bar, there was more than two years of enmity between Netanyahu’s supporters and elements of security and defense establishment, which worsened for the failures that allowed Hamas to attack October 7, 2023.
The bar, who was one of the Israeli negotiators in the negotiations of the Seas Fire and the release of Israeli prisoners, had already indicated that he would resign only before the end of his term 18 months before his tenure, which claimed responsibility for the attack by Shin Beat.
Netanyahu, with a secure majority in Parliament and the hard -working national security minister, is reinforced by the return of Ben Gauer, has been able to end the protest.
“There will be no civil war! Israel’s state is a state of law and according to law, the Israeli government decides who will be the head of Shin Bat,” Netanyahu. is written on x.
Qatargate Investigation
The move to dismiss the bar has come up between a bitter battle about the so -called “Qatargate” investigation, which is ready for months, including allegations of leaking and influence from Netanyahu’s office.
Israeli media reports that Shin BET launched the allegations in February, and the government in a letter to the dismissal, which was leaked to the press, said the bar said it considered the completion of the investigation as a “public responsibility of the highest order”.
