At least four people were injured in the Central Indian town of Dr. Ambedkar Nagar on Sunday when the clashes broke out when the Indian Champions Trophy won a mosque, who celebrated the tearing out.
India won the Champions Trophy on Sunday evening after beating New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai, and claimed their second consecutive world honor.
Officials said that in the clashes in Dr. Ambedkar Nagar, previously known as Mohu, consisted of stones from both sides, and several cars, shops and bikes were also broken and burned.
The town is located 200 km from Bhopal, the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Senior police officer Hatika Wasal told reporters, “Some processions were being carried out in which some people illuminated fire crackers outside the mosque (mosque), after which there was a difference between the two sides.”
According to local media, police used tear gas shells to end the violence.
The video footage depicts the deserted lanes in the riot gear with policemen, as some cars were darkened as a result of the burning of windows and others.
The footage also featured glass shops and shops on the road that were broken.
Another senior police officer, Namish Agarwal, told reporters, “The situation is currently under control,” he said, adding that police patrols have been started in sensitive areas.
Hindu -majority India is the third largest Muslim population in the world and clashes during cricketing victories are not unusual.
Local media said that in the western state of Maharashtra, police had to use force to control the crowd that celebrated India’s Arc Raval Pakistan in the same tournament last month.
Workers, opposition groups and some governments have accused the federal government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to discriminate against Muslims and work against those who target them.
Modi and his government have denied the allegations.
