Representatives of the Boys, Adho (KMVT/KVT)-Ideo House passed a bill that mostly needed state lawmakers to report to the official government trip paid by someone else.
According to House Bill 378, the proposal aims to promote transparency and public confidence in the government.
This will be applied to legislators, legislators, and legislative candidates if approved.
Within 30 days of travel for the official purposes or policy paid by another individual or institution, they have to file a report with the Secretary of State Office.
This will not be applied to the journey paid by campaigns or personal funds.
Representative Stephanie Joe McLeak (R-32) said, “As a legislator, it is a transparency bill for us to walk and talk.” “If we are not ready to be transparent ourselves what we are doing, how can we expect someone to do less than anyone else.”
Lawmakers who do not file travel reports within 30 days will receive $ 25 daily.
Opponents say the bill will apply only to those who cannot afford to pay the penalty and are more controlled than transparency.
“It does not exclude people who use their money,” said Repert Cleanant Hostel (R-24). “If it’s really about transparency, not everyone should buy their way in transparency or not to declare it?”
Representative David Levit (R-25) also expressed opposition to the bill.
“I think this bill is a bad bill because it really suppresses the ability to go about our business and know about the various issues that this nation faces, as well as things in the state,” said Levit.
After a heated debate on Wednesday, the House approved the bill on Thursday for a vote of 47 to 22.
Now it leads to the Ideo Senate to review.
