Chicago (WLS) – The Homeland Security Department on Tuesday faced great progress in efforts to deport migrants living in the United States without legal permission across the country, but expressed their doubts about the number of immigrants.
The ABC -7 Chicago Eye team has also learned that there are new concerns, as Congress is ready to pay billions of extra dollars to immigration and customs implementation, which is allegedly spent on the price.

DHS officials announced that more than 32,000 people have been arrested after President Donald Trump took office in January.
Referring to the total number of arrests made in the fiscal year 2024, 33,242, officials said they were already nearing overthrowing the overall in the first 50 days of the president.
Although the number is sufficient, labor experts say they are lower than Trump’s first term.
“In the first seven weeks of the current administration, you see a messaging that is very strong and tough, but you are not seeing follow -up on the numbers you get,” said Professor Michael Leroye, a professor at the University of Illinois.
Leroi said the factors are numerous: the potential irregularities of immigration resources, the reduction of immigration judges through the system and the increase in immigration facilities increases the cost.
“The costs of detaining US taxpayers are increasing, increasing, Leroi said. “It is possible that this rapid size of the federal government is making it, which creates obstacles to the pursuit of what this administration wants to do.”

One of the ICE official told ABC News that in the first 50 days of the Trump administration, more than 32,000 arrested persons, more than 14,000 convicted, were 9,800 immigrants, including pending criminal charges, 1,100 suspected gang members and 44 foreigners.
According to an ICE senior official, the remaining 8,718 people have been labeled “immigration violators”. Ice has previously cited the arrests as a “suicide attack” or “suicide attack”: those who are not the target of the implementation, but those arrested in the process.
Immigration supporters say the number may be misleading, and that thousands of people have been arrested, if they could face a civilian crime of living in the country without legal permission, if they were not deported before.
“Any number of the Trump administration needs to be taken with salt grain,” said Azadia Irfani, policy director of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC).
The NIJC represents immigrants who are flowing into immigration raids in Chicago. Some are accused of violating the fourth amendment during their arrests.
Irfani said, “What we have seen with the Chicago area is that (ICE officials) enter the properties without any warrant. They arrest people suicide, you know. They make people profile racial, and we have given them domestic violence, and they have given them a small businessman.
These immigration operations across the country can soon receive cash.
On Monday evening, the US plans to award about $ 10 billion in a continuous resolution passing through the US home. The money is placed for snow “operations and support”.
On Tuesday, a senior ICE official, addressing reporters, acknowledged that when it comes to detention facility, the agency is “maximized”, with about 47,000 beds across the country.
The official said he was hoping that he would get a possible bed space through partnerships with the US Marshal and the Bureau of Prisons, and that he was urging Congress to work for these efforts and provide further financial support.
Irfani fears that the situation may worsen for his clients.
