Corn dog recipe
Corn dogs are readily available at the grocery store, but you can also make your own at home. When it comes to batter, there are many corn dog recipes, so use one that appeals to you the most.
If you want to make your own corn dog batter:
- Mix cornmeal, flour, baking powder, sugar and salt. In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk, egg, oil and honey.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, aiming for a thick and spongy consistency.
- Pour the batter into a tall cup or mason jar to easily dip the dog.
You can use your favorite hot dog, hot links or pre-cooked sausage in the corn dog. If you’re serving a large crowd, consider cutting the hot dog into bite-sized pieces or using Vienna sausage for an easy finger food. Prick the meat with a toothpick and remove before serving.
Use a sturdy skewer, such as a candy apple stick, to skewer the hot dog. Pour in the batter and stir it a bit, making sure it is evenly coated and there are no air bubbles in the batter.
In a tall pot, heat a neutral oil to 350ºF and try to maintain this temperature while frying the corn dogs. Add the corn dog to the oil and stir until it turns dark brown in color. This should take about three minutes per corn dog.

Chilli Cheese Corn Dog
The base of a chili cheese corn dog is entirely up to you. You can choose fresh, homemade corn dogs or use frozen, store-bought ones.
Begin by cooking the corn dogs in your oven, air fryer, or your favorite method, following the directions on the container. Once it reaches your preferred temperature and crunch level, remove the stick from the full-sized corn dog and cut it lengthwise. Be careful not to cut it completely in half.
Sprinkle the cheese on top, then top with your favorite homemade or store-bought chili. Add some of your favorite toppings and condiments, such as chopped onions, jalapeños, or mustard. Now enjoy!
Make it into bite-sized pieces and layer the toppings on top of the mini corn dogs.
