Police said Wednesday that a German tourist was killed in India after being attacked by a wild elephant in a forest reserve.
On Tuesday evening, a 77 -year -old man was riding a scooter in the Tiger Valley in the southern Tamil Nadu state when an angry elephant attacked the mountain forest road, and threw tourists into the forest.
“He failed to understand the warnings by other passengers who had stopped the safe distance after finding the wild elephant and proceeded.”
The officer said, “The elephant attacked him and he died on his way to a local hospital.” AFP.
Police said they have tried to contact the dead person’s family “but no one responded to our calls”.
Local media reported that tourists continued to drive towards the wild elephant despite the warning of passengers who were waiting for the passage of animals.
According to the new Indian Express newspaper, Jungle Officer G Venkatesh said, “The decision to ignore the warning and the presence of an elephant resulted in a fatal accident.”
There are an estimated 30,000 wild Asian elephants in India.
