Defense Minister Khawaja Asif is currently addressing the National Assembly and is talking about the recent hijacking of the Jaffar Express train in Balochistan.
The incident took place on Tuesday morning when a train traveling from Quetta to Peshawar and carrying 440 passengers was attacked by Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) terrorists. The terrorists opened fire on the train and took the passengers hostage, indicating security forces to launch a two -day operation.
Speaking to a private news channel late Wednesday evening, Director General of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) LT General LT General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry confirmed that the operation had ended, in which 33 terrorists were present at the site of the attack. He said that since the terrorists used hostages, including women and children, as human shields, the security forces had to move forward with additional caution as BLA members kept the hostages of suicide hosters.
He also confirmed that 21 passengers and four Frontier Corps personnel were washed away in the hijacking, but no hostage was damaged during the final phase of rescue.
Recalling the successful completion of the clearance operation, Asif said, “May God not, there may be many casualties”, but the security forces completely eliminated the terrorists.
