Transparency International says corruption has maintained global cooperation on climate change policy.
According to the Graft Watch Dog Transparency International (TI), global cooperation is at risk of “removing” global cooperation to tackle climate change.
Watchdog corruption (CPI) has reported that many nations have seen a decline in their score for climate diplomacy for 2024, which was published on Tuesday.
Overall, the CPI found that global corruption last year was “dangerously”.
More than two -thirds of the 180 countries had less than 50 out of 100. The global average has not changed from 2023 to 43.
Although 32 countries have made significant progress against corruption since 2012, 148 countries have been stagnant or denied during the same period, adding that the results indicate the urgent need for “concrete action against corruption”.
‘Destructive’
Tie noted the “devastating” effect of global corruption on the war on climate change.
The report states that “between the global heating system and the extreme events of the weather, corruption is increasing the climate crisis.”
Watchdog has warned about the impact of corruption on climate -driven countries and major international climate conferences. It states that countries, including the host of high -level events such as the UN climate summit, are watching the CPI score decline.
For example, Brazil, the host of this year’s COP30 climate negotiations, got a score of 34, which is its lowest ranking. The wealthy countries that guide climate talks like the United States have got a score of 65.
The report also highlighted the increasing risk of billions of dollars of life -saving climate, often in countries that need it most. It states that South Africa, Vietnam and Indonesia are an example of how corruption is removing climate measures.
Among the most discoveries of climate change were among those who have the lowest scores, including South Sudan, Somalia and Venezuela.
Transparency International CEO Ira Martini said in a statement, “Corrupt forces not only form shapes, but often order policies and eliminate checks and balances.”
“We must immediately root out corruption before we completely remove the meaningful climate process.”
The report states that a solution is used effectively to deal with corruption and ensure that there will be better “Metrix and Framework for better” transparency and accountability. “
Watchdog also said that increasing anti -corruption institutions would help prevent environmental crime and reduce immunity.
The CPI of the International Watch Dog ranks 180 countries according to the corruption level in the public sector and is calculated using independent data sources.
The score of zero is considered “extremely corrupt”. 100 “very clean” score.
