The wrestler of the year

Christine Scott

Catholic high

The fact is that the Scott is not surprising for the second straight season to the Baton Roose Area All Metro team. But the Catholic High Junior, with 44-2 records, has taken the path to claim the individual honor of his second straight division I LHSAA is one of the special stories of the season.

Physical development often orders tricks between weight classes. One year after winning the Division I title, Scott fought four weight classes and even more dominant.

“It was the first year that I suffered a defeat against the wrestlers in Louisiana,” Scott said. “I will be honest, I was very nervous about going to the season. I weighed 138 pounds long before the beginning of this season. I kept growing.

“I would say that I was on a diet to go up to 138, but I was lying to myself. And I was not sure that I was so big to fight in high weight classes. I started the season at 157 and thought that maybe I would finish 150. It was a big change.”

Finally, Catholic coach Tommy Peruchaska and Scott set 157 pounds as perfect fit in the class, which also benefited a young Catholic lineup. Only the disadvantages of Scott were to a contestant in Alabama at the beginning of the season. It has a career record of 122-14.

Scott said, “I know there were people who thought I was just fat and not so strong to wrestle on 157.” “So, I had something to prove.”

An unbeaten record is a way to explain dominance. The margin of victory is another.

Bangton checked both boxes extensively, which is why he heads the All Metro team selected by area coaches in the first LHSAA approved season for girls’ wrestling.

St. Amanat Junior won 30-0 and won 100 pounds in the LHSAA Wrestling Tournament. He won 23 matches through pins and three others through technical faults.

“I had an idea that I was an unbeaten opportunity,” said Bangton. “What I didn’t realize was that the difference of skill would be so big that not only for me, not only unbeaten, but also to do something else.

“My confidence has improved a lot over the past year and it was a huge part of it. Likewise, we adopted a way to go to every match.”

St. Ament Coach Clent Brownl, a former Gaiter Standout, has sent a strategy to Bayington in the season with a strategy that is more similar to his confidence.

“We have come up with a game to get in its position to take some steps from a high position that will guarantee (pins),” said Brownl. “It is easy for wrestlers who are not so skilled. You have to be successful against the top wrestlers, you have to actually stick to this move. Maciala works very hard every day … he did it.”

During the season, only one rival took Bongton in three periods. Two brought it to other periods.
