Democrats of California, Senator Adam B. Shef, are known as “Pencil Neck”, “Schifty Schif” in Republicans and just a simple old “scheme”.
Since his role as the lead manager of President Trump’s first motion in 2019, Mr. Shaf has achieved a special position in the ranking of Mr. Trump’s political enemies: right -on. Last year, Mr Trump was still railing against him at almost every campaign rally, and the House Republicans censored Mr. Shaf on his role in the investigation with Mr Trump.
He made for a funding honor: An email sent Mr. Shaf this week that “Trump called me a ‘scheme’-from the Resolute Desk at the Owl Office.” And as a public enemy of Die Hard Trump’s supporters, the number 1 helped them to raise them to the Senate seat, which he is now occupying.
But Mr. Shef is up on a complex time. Large areas of the state have been destroyed by the fire and California will need federal destruction assistance for rebuilding. Mr Trump is once again president, and has already threatened that the Democrats do not vote for their policy priorities. The purchase of funds for California will mean working with the administration, not a personality associated with any resistance.
Mr Shaf rejected the invitation to be with the president on a tour of Los Angeles County on Thursday, citing scheduled votes in the Senate on Friday. Mr Trump told reporters on Friday that he had never invited Mr Shaf.
In an interview in his office on Thursday afternoon, Mr. Shaf discussed the difficult place in which he was, why he wanted former President Joseph R Biden Jr. that he did not forgive him and he had his own. What is planned to do a new job. President
This interview has been lightly edited and thick for clarification.
Is the fact that Mr. Trump will especially hurt you to California?
The challenge for California is the challenge we had in its first term. The states that are not with him give second class citizenship. We saw him in the last Trump tax deductions, as he knew with state and local tax deductions that he would punish the blue coastal states.
This is made in this way.
But now it is bigger than Trump. They have influenced most of the Republican Party in Washington to see us as the United States, not as the United States, but as the Red states and the blue states. We have to deal with it.
He called you “Sikkim” at the Oval Office on his first day. And then he called you “crooked” in his first interview with Fox News host Sean Honey.
He may have answered the question I have.
I thought, “Either I’m living in the boy’s head for free, or I’m a useful foil for him at rallies, or both.” I could not say which one was. The grossly random pin to bring me to my opening day told me that it was more than utility like a foil.
This was once told me by Jareide Kushner while gathering about Russia’s investigation.
He said to me like a sidebar: “You know, you do a really good job on TV.” I jokingly said, “Your father -in -law doesn’t think so.” The answer was, “Yes, he does.”
They saw who was effective on TV. I think the arguments I have made against him during the motion have been affected near the house. I think maybe that’s why.
So can you really work together, as you need to do now?
I had two meetings with him, one in opinar, one in a cabinet room. It was very pleasant both times. At a cabinet meeting, when the Iranians dropped one of our drones, I was sitting on one side of the table and we were waiting for the speaker Pelosi, the president came and sat down. When he saw me, he was physically blown.
Then he said, “I’m glad you are here.”
I said, “I’m glad I’m here.”
It was very civilized. I remember the former Secretary of Defense, Mark Asper, who had not yet been confirmed, was there. When we were talking to the little things, I told the president, “I think you have made a really good choice with Asper. I have known it for a long time.
He did not answer it. Later in the meeting, he said, “How long do you know asper?” I thought, “Oh dirt – I just killed it.”
What is your theory of Mr Trump and other Republicans that advance the idea of destruction to California?
I just say to my colleagues, you don’t want to go down this road. We give us more than we receive. We have cooperated more in the recovery of many states in recovery of other states. We never tried to bet it.
What do you expect to visit Mr. Trump’s visit to Los Angeles?
I don’t know anything about it, the governor does not know anything about it. I just hope he will come. I think if he talks to destruction and people, I hope he cannot help but will move.
It should not really look at the state as a political foil. Millions of people voted for him in California. Some of them had just burned their homes.
You voted for Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Will you vote for Elis Stephen’s confirmation representative to serve as an ambassador to the United Nations?
No. She came to Congress as a moderate. It has decided that the power and the Shaan is in the megon of the party. When the mega is a matter of past, it will turn into something else.
Unlike former Representative Liz Chinese, you have not thanked former President Joseph R. B. B. B. B. B. B….. Why not?
I was surprised No one gave me his head. I was talking publicly and privately, you should not apologize.
I didn’t like the example of this, I didn’t think they were necessary. Of course, they are used to justify the blasphemy.
I said, “Do none of them.” It was quite surprising.
Can you say, “Thank you but not thank you?”
It is legally unclear. Some courts have interpreted it with the influence of the law. Others have found in different ways. We have tried as a committee status [the House Select Committee on the Jan. 6 Attack] Living together I am meeting with my colleagues in the committee. I don’t think something needs to be done.
So, with you to withdraw, you don’t really think that Mr Trump will be less likely to help California because of you?
I have no idea. At the end of the day, the only belief about Donald Trump is: they are for Donald Trump. He will change his ideology five times on Tuesday. Only you have the interests of the interests. It really depends on where he looks at his interest.
