According to a UN report released Friday, Iran is using aerial drones, facial identification systems, and citizens reporting.
The report highlights the growing dependence on technology to monitor and punish women who violate Iran’s compulsory dress code. The main focus of this crackdown is the “Nazim” mobile application, which is a government -backed tool that allows citizens and police to report women for alleged violations.
Investigators involved in a two -year -old mission have accused Iran of accusing human rights violations and crimes against humanity, especially targeting women and girls.
According to the report, “Nazar” mobile application enables users to upload a license plate, location and a vehicle time where a woman is not wearing a hijab. The report states that after warning the police, the app makes online “flags”.
According to the report, the app “triggers a text message (at the real time) to the registered owner of the vehicle, and warns them that they are found in violation of mandatory hijab rules, and that their vehicles will be baseless when ignoring these warnings.”
In September 2024, an accessable app, accessible by the Iranian police, was extended to target women in ambulances, taxis and public transport in September 2024.
Researchers have also found “air drones”, “to support hijab compliance in public places,”, to support public places in public places and “monitor the hijab in public places,” by “air drones”.
CNN has reached the Iranian embassy in London for comment.
Although it has been suspended in December 2024 after internal debate, Iran’s draft law “hijab and chastity” poses a serious threat to women and girls in the country.
The report states that if implemented, the law will be sentenced to 10 years in prison and impose a fine of 000 12,000, on non -compliance. Under Article 286 of Iran’s Islamic sanctions, if “corruption on the ground” is accused, women may face “death sentence”.
The report states that better implementation of this law will be further assigned to Iran’s security apparatus, while the use of technology and surveillance will also increase.
Following the death of 22 -year -old Maha Amini in the custody of Ethics Police in September this year, the United Nations said in 2022, against Iran’s compulsory hijab law and political and social affairs, killing hundreds of people.
