Dear Atlas,
When I am traveling, I like to meet locals, but how do I know about it when I am in a new destination? Do you have any points?
We all have one fantasy among the passengers. We reach a foreign city and go towards once. Or maybe it’s a restaurant. Or a bookstore. It doesn’t matter that wherever we want, they are all the same. We talk to a local who then invites us to hang out with our friends/go to the party/family. And, suddenly, we find the extraordinary aspect of the destination, make new friends, learn culture.
It’s a great dream, okay?
Except for real life movies. On most trips, only locals you meet with you guide you in the tourism industry or take your order at a restaurant.
Nevertheless, there are many ways to make the fantasy of “meeting the local” if you know where to see. But before I reach it, let me address the elephant here in the room: many people are worried about language barriers and rightly. Nevertheless, if you have a rusty high school Spanish, how do you have to communicate?
For starters, the basic English is talked about everywhere and there is usually a person in a friend group who can communicate and often translate. Don’t stop me from going to this birthday from speaking German, nor did Ukraine stop me from going to the party. For better or worse, English is the language of the world. Second, Thanks to the Google Translate app, you can always push the phone back and forth for the conversation. This can lead to some funny moments, but it is part of the focus.
So, beyond this route, there are some ways to meet locals when you travel:
First, Facebook groups have become a really popular way to meet people internationally over the past two years. You are found in people of all ages and all the places you want to meet and even host passengers. Second, try to use Met -up dot Or Event Bright. Your interest does not matter, one of these websites is usually a local group. See if you are hosting a meeting in the city. Both sites make it easier to see what’s going on and an amazing way to meet people you like. This makes it easier to connect with people because you already know that you have common interests.
Third, try some sports. Worldwide, there are many local sports leagues that you can join. I added a friend to joining volleyball games in Spain and I joined a pickle game in Vienna. And the run clubs have burst into popularity so if you like to run, find some people to run! Usually after the run, everyone goes out for food or drinks. And if you are not runner, don’t worry. They go slowly. When you travel, the Internet has made it easier to meet locals. To meet locals, you don’t have to be lucky to be in a restaurant or buy a form in Tuscani. Use the aforementioned resources and you will be hanging yourself in a variety of settings with the locals.
