South Korean teacher admits to stabbing girl to death, police say

Seoul, South Korea-New Korea’s early Korean school teacher confessed to stabbing a 7-year-old girl who was found in a cardiac arrest and later died at the hospital.

The official said that the female teachers, who are being treated at the hospital, have not yet been arrested, the official said, adding that the police are still investigating the stabbing of Monday.

Acting President Choi Sang Mock offered deep condolences during a cabinet meeting on the death of a child and ordered the Ministry of Education and authorities to investigate the incident at the school in Digiwan city.

According to the police official, the girl was a student at the school where the teachers worked, though the police had not yet established personal relations between the two.

During a media briefing on Tuesday, an official of the Dijin Metropolitan Office of Education said the girl was discovered by her grandmother. A local fire department official told Reuters on Monday that she was found with knife wounds in the neck and face, and later died at the hospital.

The Education Office official told the briefing that the female teachers had taken absence for medical reasons before returning to work at the end of last year.
