340 million-year-old ‘nail tooth’ shark found deep inside Mammoth Cave in Kentucky

Researchers collecting deep fossils inside Kentucky’s large cave have revealed the remnants of never seen species-such as a small ancient shark like a tooth.

Called new species Clavovinscin MacGensOr McGenus’s nail tooth. The animal lived 340 million years ago and belonged to a group of sharks known as Obrochuchoid Petlodonts, or “Chiponic Shark” because of their small size and extraordinary teeth.
